Zine workshop at Seomra Spraoi

This Sunday 20th October from 3 - 4pm I'll be doing a workshop in Seomra Spraoi as part of the Eddie Pie Hands launch. It's at 10 Belevedere Court which is not far off off Mountjoy Square in Dublin (map here).

The launch goes on from 12 - 6pm and there are plenty of other cool workshops as well as food and entertainment. Suggested donation is a fiver. Eddie Pie Hands is a non-profit printing resource for zine makers and DIY publishers and provides a great value way of getting your work reproduced. Facebook page here and good Totally Dublin article on them here.

I'll be asking 'Why bother make a zine when you can just blog?', explaining why, showing some of my early self-publishing efforts:

and showing how to make a zine out of one sheet of paper which is pretty much the following diagram:

It'll be all about getting back to my roots - yeah?

Wrong Way, Turn Back

Piece that I did for the very natty 'Gods and Monsters' anthology from last year. This appeared reformatted somewhat in the book itself.

2D Festival Sketches

Just back from another awesome 2D Comics Festival - just a really good buzz there and the best one so far.

Part of the fun is getting to do quick sketches on request from the various attendees. I actually did a bit of homework this year trying to learn the obvious superhero characters - but I didn't get asked for any of those ones!

'Draw someone tasting something they don't like:'
Sploot
'Draw a robot putting on clothes:'
Robot
'Draw the Hulk:'
Hulk
'Just a beast - whatever you like:'
Hairy Beasty
'Death *something* (a 90's superhero?):'
Death something
Unspecific request but has to be an unconscious Moebius swipe.

The Flash (yes, I know it's wrong).

Green lantern (yes, very wrong).

Where's that Larry guy?

Got good news on the Where's Larry book this week - it's gone into a second printing which is ace!

Here's another avid Larry fan with yet another patched up Larry book. Try not to get too frustrated and tear up your book please - Larry's not that good at hiding!

I've also had some requests from eagle-eyed Larry fans wondering what is going on behind the text boxes in the scenes in the book. I've previously given the goo on Glendalough and Croke Park but here are another couple.
Bunratty:

and the Cliffs of Moher:

More soon!

Also coming soon some more Larry-based workshops - keep an eye on the workshops area in the right hand column for more details.

Where's Larry Jam Workshop

Calling all young Larry the Leprechaun fans! I'm doing a workshop in the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire on the 16th March (yes, right before St.Patricks day) as part of the You Create series in which you can learn how to draw yourself as Larry and participate in a spectacular Larry jam where you draw in the characters.

More details and ticket booking here.

There are some other great events in the series too - from Chris Judge, Fintan Taite and Sarah Webb.

I visited a young Larry Fan in Co. Laois recently who had a rather well-loved copy of Where's Larry!

The Vision Service

A comic I did as a trailer for this excellent RTE radio play by Luke Clancy called the Vision Service - well worth a listen.
